Hi Guys,

I am trying to use my interface with eTrigger to convert audio/midi, then send this on to BFD2.

The reason I am doing this is I would like to get a positional sensing output. However at the minute I am only getting one channel (I think).

I am using a TRS cable from my snare into my interface, and this is a dual zone snare with piezo/piezo triggers. It does support positional sensing as it works fine on a TD-12/TD-20.

What I don't understand is what I need to do next? I have set the output to zone controlled but I am then stuck.

There are no FAQs on the matter, no videos on it. SO PLEASE HELP. I want to buy this software but the customer support is terrible!

You will need to add a second zone to your trigger track.
This can be done by clicking on "setup" for the track, then switching the zones to 2.
Then select the second zone tab and learn the rim/edge of the drum.

Please note the the drum will need to have two piezos for this to work.
Roland TD modules achieve position sensing with one piezo, but that ability is locked by their patent.

By the way, what model is your snare. Is it a roland? homemade?

Hi Aquawicket,

Thanks for your reply!

Adding the second zone is where I start hitting problems. My snare is a Jobeky Dual Zone snare, with 2 piezo triggers, with 1 output that is TRS. If I use the TRS cable I can only pick up one zone, so I have changed to a 2 mono jack input and can now pick up both zones. However I am unsure of what to do now.

I am using Midi Yoke to feed the midi out into BFD2. In BFD2 variable snare hits are calculated where 127 = full half, and 0 = full hit. Whereas the eTrigger output is 127 = full hit and 0 = full half, so it is inverted. How can I change this?

Also, I am unsure how to get the dual trigger, of centre and edge to activate a rim shot or side stick, unless this is a whole seperate midi signal? But when it is seperate it is obviously inconsistant.

My basic settings are:

Output   Zone Controlled (Have experimented with changing the velocity numbers to different midi channels, but unsure how to full utilize this)
Note off signals is checked

Zone Priorities all set to 0.
Zone Gravities all set to 0.
Velocity balance is 0
Last zone is a rim is checked.

Enabled CC Output, and assigned this to the corresponding channels as in BFD2.

Limits are 127 (High), and 0 (Low).

Hope you can shed some more light on this for me!

Thanks

I assume you are using the MIDI CC OUTPUT in the Multi Zone section to send a position signal to BFD. The center of the drum should be the first zone and the edge of the drum should be the second zone. Center hits will produce a 0 midiCC value and edge hits will provide a 127 midiCC value. If you still need to invert this scale, I will need to add the feature to the Multi Zone tab.

Rim shots have not been coded into eTrigger yet. In fact their pretty tricky to set up on electronic drums. I'll have a look at the code this weekend to see what I can come up with.

Basically, whatever the position strike is will be represented on a scale from 0 to 127. 0 = center, 127 = edge. So if you have to zones set up in "Zone Controlled Output", eTrigger will play one of the note depending on where you hit the drum. You can move the sliders to actually fine tune where you zone lines are on your drum.
